Question and Answers

Q:

How do I use the torque wrench?

A:

There are several Craftsman torque wrenches that Sears handles, and I am not sure which torque wrench actually came with the tool set that you purchased I would assume that you have the beam torque wrench. This beam style is the basic torque wrench.

This torque wrench points to the pounds/Newton meters setting that you need. This will allow you to get accurate calibration.

Newton meter is the metric measurement which is 25.4 mm to the foot. There are 12 inch pounds to the foot pound.

Q:

The engine seized on model 536881851 mod 15a1140342e1.I am doing a shortblock repair with short block 791711. What gaskets do I need? Any hints? Is there a tech repair manual? Who is the original manufacturer?

A:

You can view a repair manual for the engine at [www.briggsandstratton.com]. Before you attempt replacing a short block, you should read the manual.

The short block is a complete engine less the starter and possibly the carburetor. Before cranking the new engine, the governor should be adjusted. After the short block is installed, the rpm's should be set with a tachometer and the torque on the head bolts should be checked.

The manufacturer of the engine and short block is Briggs and Stratton. The don't have a phone line to walk you through the repair.

I recommend you replace the complete engine or get a Sears technician to install the short block for you.
