Question and Answers

Q:

675 Series Briggs 22" Multi-Cut Model No. 917.370410 will not start

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

Based on your symptom and details I suspect the carburetor will need to be taken off, dis-assembled and cleaned. The old gas sitting in the carburetor bowl may have turned to shellac and has likely caused a restriction in the main jet. If the blade ever hit anything hard enough, it could also cause the flywheel key to shear and cause the ignition timing to be out of time.

I added a video showing how to clean the caburetor if needed.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician fix this problem, you can take the mower into your nearest Sears Repair Center or Sears Store. Here is a link for the Sears Service website that has information on the nearest repair facilities in your area: Sears Home Services.

Q:

I have a 675 22" weed trimmer that I am trying to remove the recoil starter to replace the rope but the bolts look like rivets how do I remove it?

A:

Here is a procedure from Briggs & Stratton on replacing the starter rope: Replacing the starter rope . If you are able to replace the starter rope using this procedure, you will not need to remove the housing.

If you cannot replace the rope in this manner, you can drill out the rivets and then replace the entire starter and rewind housing (part 697671). You can rivet the new starter housing into place or you can use bolts to secure it. The new starter assembly should come with bolts that you can use instead of rivets.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired by a Sears technician. Here is a link that will provide the nearest drop-off locations: Sears Home Services .

Q:

On August 22, 2011 I purchased a craftsman 675 series Briggs & Stratton engine rotary lawn mower, model #917.370660.

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the new mower. Usually when new gasoline products have starting problems, it is due to gasoline used. If the gasoline that is being used is older than 5 weeks old, it should be drained and filled with fresh. If you are using fresh fuel, I recommend taking the mower to one of our drop off locations. Here is a link that will provide the nearest drop-off locations: Sears Home Services . They will be able to determine if the mower can be repaired or if it should be replaced.

Again, I am sorry you are having a problem with the new mower. Please feel free to reply with more details if you need further assistance.

Thank you for using Manage my life.
