Question and Answers

Q:

My Proform 540 s is inclined fully and will not go down The motor keeps running. What should I do?

A:

Several things could cause the incline motor to keep running in the up position. The console or the motor controller might have failed. Some wires might be shorted in the wire harness between the console and the controller. The photo switch and optic disc on the incline motor might be bad or out of position. These items will require diagnosis with a volt/ohm meter.

If the motor tries to run when it is stalled, it will damage the windings and the incline motor will have to be replaced. Don't let the motor try to run too long.

I recommend you schedule service and let a technician diagnose and repair the problem.

Q:

When I plug in my treadmill nothing works. It is a model 831.294050 Pro-Form 540 Heart Rate Control. What is wrong?

A:

Several things can cause nothing to work on the treadmill. Be sure you have it connected to a working wall receptacle. Be sure the on/off switch is in the on position. Be sure you have the safety key in place.

If all these things are good, someone will need to trace the electrical supply to find where the problem is. The following parts could cause the problem:

  • The circuit breaker (on/off switch).

  • The power supply.

  • The motor controller.

  • The console.

  • A loose or broken wire or a bad connection.

I recommend you get a technician to repair the treadmill.
