Question and Answers

Q:

I want to install this unit, actually (5) of these onboard a US Navy ship. Will (5) 220 VAC 30 Amp power sources suffice as far as electrical requirements?

A:

The power supply that you are describing will likely work for this model of laundry center. The specific electrical requirements are shown in the image below. Here is a link for the full installation guide for this model of laundry center: Installation Instructions .

Before you move forward with this project, here are some facts to consider:

  • This laundry center is designed for use on land. The unit normally needs to remain level to work properly. Components can wear out quickly if the unit is used on a ship.

  • Siphoning could occur through the drain line if this unit is installed on a ship. A siphon break is normally needed in the drain line for this type of installation.

  • This top load washer model will require a fairly large amount of water. Depending on your availability of a water supply, you may consider a front load model that uses less water. Here is a Sears.com link for a front load laundry center: Frigidaire White 27 in. Electric Front Load Laundry Center with Dryer - GLEH1642F ENERGY STAR . This front load washer is also designed for use on land. It may also have trouble in the high speed spin mode if it does not remain level.

  • You may or may not intend to use these appliances when the ship is underway. If the ship is underway, the issues discussed above could be compounded. I recommend that you seriously consider these facts before installing these appliances.

Q:

Briggs&Stratton 5 HP, model 135212, Type 0140 01

A:

Thank you for your question.

I have checked the model number you have submitted. Your engine does not have points. I recommend checking the air gap setting first. It should be set at 0.012 if it is off there will not be any spark. Once the air gap is set, remove the kill wire and check for spark. If there is spark reconnect the kill wire and check again. If there is no spark, the kill circuit is shorted. If you never get spark the magneto defective. There is a sight possibility the magnet on the flywheel has lost its magnetism but it is not likely. I hope this is helpful.
