Question and Answers

Q:

How do I fix the tension on a Schwinn 213 Recumbent Bike after I have installed the motor?

A:

It sounds like you got the resistance strap too tight when you installed the motor.

If the new resistance motor is not running you need to check the speed sensor near the flywheel to make sure it is within 1/4 inch of the flywheel. If this is off or the speed sensor has failed the resistance motor won't run.

Q:

Recently my husband installed a motor that we purchased for our Schwinn 213 Recumbent exercise bike,

A:

The E2 error is telling you the console is not receiving the proper information from the reed switch located beside the crank pulley.

There is a small wire that runs from the reed switch up to the console. The wire has a connector in the center of the round tube that goes up to the console. There might be a connection problem that your husband moved or he might have accidentally moved the reed switch when he was replacing the resistance motor.

If you have an ohm meter, you should check the continuity of this wire from the console down. Disconnect the reed switch wire from the console and measure the resistance across the 2 terminals. When the magnet on the pulley is next to the reed switch you should read 0-4 ohms. When the magnet moves away from the reed switch, you should read an open circuit.

Q:

Why is the screen blank and nothing works on my Schwinn 213 exercise bike following a lightning strike?

A:

If the computer display has power and you checked the wiring connections, then it was likely damaged by the lightning strike. Try completely unplugging the unit for 5 minutes and then plug it back in. This can sometimes reset a control that has experienced a power surge or glitch caused by a lightning strike. If the computer will still not power up and function, it will likely need to be replaced. This is an expensive part. I am showing a cost of $399 from the Sears PartsDirect website. Before replacing this part, I recommend having a service technician check the bike to make sure that it is needed.
