Q:

Craftsman 3gal 1HP air compressor -- issue w/ regulator gauge & low PSI

A:

Thank you for your question on the difference in the pressure gauge readings.

I have contacted the manufacturer and they say there can but up to a 5% difference in the tank pressure reading and the outlet pressure reading and that it is normal for this model. That 5% percent in this case relates to 10 psi difference.

I hope this will reassure you that you compressor is working normal.

Thank Brandon for your question on the air tools and compressors issues. It is normal for the gauges to be off as much as 5% and you probably are getting the 125 psi when the unit shuts off. Change the oil the first time at about 10 hrs and then every 100hrs. Use a SAE 30 weight oil. It will take about 3 to 4 ounces or until the oil reaches the center dot in the sight gauge. All air tools leak a little and if you have to put you ear up to it to hear it then I would not be concerned and since you bought it used it has a little wear already but unless it is hissing real loud I would not be concerned. Make sure that the hissing is not coming from the quick coupling because they are notorious for leaking. Sam A.
