Question and Answers

Q:

refridg. door won't stay closed. purchased 1991

A:

You can sometimes correct this type of problem on your own. That link for a previous answer that James R. provided in the above response may help you. Check the leveling of the refrigerator first. Make sure that the refrigerator is level from side to side. It should have about a half of a bubble of back tilt from front to back so that the doors will swing gently shut on their own.

If the refrigerator is level, I recommend that you check the door gasket for damage. If it is, it could be preventing the door from staying closed. Replace that door gasket if necessary. You can order parts from the Sears PartsDirect website.

If the door gasket is okay, you may need to adjust the bottom hinge as described in that link for a previous answer.

These tips may help you with this door problem. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.

Q:

Will a snowblower attachment model 842.240728 fit a 1991 lawn tractor model 917-255920?

A:

The 842,240728 snow thrower will need to be installed by someone that understands the snow thrower and the tractor. The snow thrower model 842.240728 and the tractor 917.255920 are both from around 1987. The snow thrower should mount to and work on the tractor. Mounting the snow thrower needs to be done by someone that has mounted these snow throwers before.

Our information recommends a 486.24838. This snow thrower will come with an owners manual that give instructions for mounting it.

Q:

Why won't my vintage 1991 Kenmore washing machine model 110.82980130 spin even though it drains?

A:

A timer issue could prevent the washer from spinning even though it drains. After the washer drains the water, the timer should pause the motor to set the spin mode. If the washer is not pausing after it drains, try lifting up the lid to stop the motor for a few seconds. Shut the washer lid and see if it will start spinning. If it does then the timer will need to be replaced.

NOTE: Be sure to unplug the washer to disconnect electrical power before accessing internal components. Also, internal metal edges in the washer can be sharp. Protective gloves are recommended.

Check to see if the washer actually agitates. If the motor is running but the agitator is not working, then your likely failure is a motor coupler since the washer motor is running in the spin cycle and it is draining. The images below show how to access and replace the motor coupler on this type of washer.

If these tips don't help, you could have several other issues that would prevent the washer from spinning. A failed basket drive or a bad clutch could be causing your problem. Resubmit your question with additional details for more help if needed.

If needed, you can order parts from the Sears PartsDirect website.
