Q:

Craftsman Band Saw # Model No. 113.244513 Question - Jimmie Lee

A:

Thank you for your question on the 10 inch 3 wheel band saw.

This band saw is designed to cut wood and wood like products. It is not designed to cut anything metal.

First the feet per minute of the blade are way too fast for cutting ferrous metal.

It has a cog belt drive off the main motor and it runs at 1725 rpm. I know of no way to reduce the speed on this model of band saw so it could be used for ferrous metal cutting.

The non-ferrous metal blade part number 26655 is available on Sears.com. It is a 56 7/8 X 1/4 in blade.

I hope this information will help you.

Thank you for the update Jimmy. I have also heard of these VFD's but have not used one myself to make sure it does not damage the motor windings. Seeing as you are cutting thin sheet it may work okay for you. Sam A.

Thank you for the update Jimmy. Because you are cutting sheet metal you should be able to get by with using it the way it is. You could try the router speed control on this motor but I do not think that I would. I would not want to chance damaging the motor. The router motor is a brush motor and the band saw motor is an induction motor. Sam A.
