Q:

lawn tractor 21.0 hp 42" deck model no. 917.289213

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the parking brake. When you se the brake you have to push the pedal down. Then hold the parking brake lever all the way up while you release the pedal. If this is how you are setting the brake, I recommend checking the parking brake latch. The image below shows the latch. Just click on the image to enlarge it. The easiest way to access the latch, is from the bottom of the tractor. Lower the mower deck so you can see. Then have a helper work the brake while you watch from below. If the latch is slipping off the frame, inspect the latch and frame. If one of them is rounded off, it will not hold. Instead of replacing the latch right away, I recommend squaring the rounded parts with a file. I have had some success doing this. If the brake still slips off you need to replace the latch. The latch is key number 167 in the parts list and can be ordered from the following link. Craftsman tractor parts Once you have the latch it might be easier to replace the part with the mower deck removed. The instructions for removing the deck are located in the manual.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Q:

damage to Kenmore Elite drier 11074082201 from power surge.

A:

Your details seem to indicate that the control will power up but it does not respond when buttons are pushed.

Although that console panel that you are describing may be damaged, another cause of this failure could be a bad electronic control circuit board (part 3980061R). You may wind up having to replace both of those components.

Page 7 of that tech sheet has testing information for that console control pad. I recommend that you test those buttons if possible. Be sure that you unplug the dryer before accessing internal components. You will need a volt/ohm meter with precision (needle) probes to conduct that test. If that control panel is okay, then you should be able to fix this problem by replacing the electronic control circuit board.

You can order parts from this page: Kenmore Elite Dryer 110.74082201 Console Panel Parts . Be sure that you unplug the dryer before accessing internal components.

If you need more help, reply with additional details.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services .

That Do-It-Yourself Service Manual is good for general information and troubleshooting. It does not have the model-specific information that the tech sheet has. I normally don't recommend that you buy that service manual. If you need help with component access, reply with additional details and we will assist you with that.

The polarity of the probes use in the test on that key panel is important. It is sometimes difficult to determine which side Pin 1 starts at. Precision (needle) probes are often required. Those types of probes can normally be inserted better into those contacts to get the proper readings. There is some trial and error that is needed when trying to check that key panel. Sometimes you can use an object such as a paper clip or sewing needle to insert into the contacts instead of using precision probes. If you get to the point where you get readings off of some of the key and not others then the key panel is probably bad. There is a chance that you will never get any readings off of any of the keys due to a failed ribbon cable or a bad control key panel. Patience usually pays off when checking that issue. It is often worth it to attempt that test before buying a new key panel when you consider the price of that component. I hope that this additional information helps. Let us know if you need more assistance.

need help with replacement mower deck (532 40 83-14) for 917 287134 lawn tractor - rod for link assembly

A:

Michael,

I am sorry you are having a problem with the rod. I was not able to look up the model number you submitted. I recommend double-checking the model number under the seat. The number on the manual may be wrong. I have had that happen a few times. Once you have the model number from under the seat please reply below. I am also not clear on what part you are looking for. Please include more details about this rod.

Once I have that I should be able to locate the correct part for you.

Thank you for using Manage my life.
