Question and Answers

Q:

why does my riding tractor run for 10-15 minutes and then starves for gas?

A:

Without a model number, I can only give you general information on your tractor.

You did the right thing loosening the gas cap. I think you can assume the gas cap is venting. You replaced the fuel lines so you can eliminate the fuel lines.

If the tractor has a fuel pump, there might be a problem in the pulse line. Tractor fuel pumps have a tube that runs from the fuel pump to the engine crankcase. This line pulses as the pressure inside the crankcase goes up and down. These lines sometimes fill with oil and the fuel pump stops working.

If the fuel tank is under the seat and fender, it is not higher than the fuel pump or carburetor. You don't get a gravity flow from rear mounted fuel tanks.

The fuel tank has a fitting for the fuel line to attach. Debris can get into this fitting and block it. You can clean the fitting. This is true on front or rear mounted fuel tanks.

Q:

My riding lawn mower stops after 10-15 minutes.

A:

Next time the engine starts to die, loosen the fuel cap for ten seconds. If the engine smoothes out, I recommend replacing the fuel cap. The fuel cap has a vent that should allow air to replace the used fuel. If the vent is plugged, fuel will eventually stop flowing from the tank. The fuel filter and the fuel pump if your tractor has one could also cause the same issue.

If you do not think fuel is not the problem, you have to determine if the engine has spark. To check the engine for spark remove the spark plug wire and insert a screwdriver into the boot. Make sure to hold the handle of the screwdriver and position the exposed metal portion of the screwdriver close to something metal on the engine. A bolt head will work well. Then try to start the engine. You should see a spark from the screwdriver to the bolt head. This mean the coil is good. If you do not see a spark most likely the coil need to be replaced. If you see a spark the problem is most likely fuel related. I hope this is helpful. If you need further assistance, please submit more details.

Q:

Why does my Maytag Signature Series electric dryer shut off within 10-15 seconds after running and will not start again?

A:

According to your symptoms, it sounds like the motor is tripping off on the overload. This is normally caused by a friction problem or a failed drive motor. With the dryer empty, try to turn the drum to see if it will turn with reasonable resistance from the belt and motor pulley. If it is extremely hard to turn, then this is likely causing your problem. If the drum turns okay, then you could have a failed drive motor. If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details.
