Q:

Blower /Vac wont start

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the blower. The ignition coil should be set between 0.010 and 0.011 thousandths. If you still do not have any spark after setting the air gap, I recommend removing the kill wire from the coil and check for spark. The kill wire is the small wire connected to the ignition coil. Once you have the kill wire disconnected, check the unit for spark. If you have spark with it disconnected, there is a problem in the kill circuit. Either the kill wire is shorted to ground or the kill switch is faulty. If you still do not get spark with the wire disconnected, I suspect the ignition coil is defective. There is a possibility that the magnets on the flywheel are weak but that does not happen that often. Once you determine the problem, you can order the replacement parts from the following link. Replacement parts for a Craftsman trimmer model number 358.794764.

Frank, The ignition coil should have one malt terminal that has a wire connected to it. This terminal is for the kill wire. If you have two wires connected to this terminal, go ahead and remove both of them. Then check for spark. You want to make sure the flywheel is secured when you set the air gap and check for spark. If it is and you still do not have spark the problem is either the coil or the flywheel magnets. You can somewhat check the magnets by placing a metal screwdriver close to the magnet. The magnet should pull the screwdriver to it. If it does, I recommend replacing the coil. There is not any way to check the coil.

Frank, If the air gap is set correctly, the new ignition coil is faulty. I recommend having a replacement coil sent out. Just call the parts department for the exchange. Please let me know if the new coil cures the problem. Thanks, Mark

Q:

I have a DGT6000 tractor that the electric clutch stays engaged even when unplugged. What do i do?

A:

The clutch has an internal brake. When the clutch is disengaged, the pulley should stop turning. When the engine is turned off you should feel a drag when you turn the clutch pulley but it should not turn the engine. If the crankshaft turns when you turn the pulley, you need to replace the clutch. There is not any way to repair the clutch except adjusting the air gap, which you already have done. The part number for the clutch is 179335 and can be ordered from the following link. Electric clutch
