Q:

What does an F1 message on a Kenmore 629 range mean?

A:

The F0-0 code is a no fault code. The control just became confused from something. The F1 code indicates a failed oven temperature sensor or a bad control.

Before removing any screws disconnect the electricity from the range.

The way to determine if the problem is in the sensor or the control is to remove the screws above the oven door opening and lower the control panel. The oven temperature sensor wire are 2 small white wires in a connector with 2 larger black wires.

Measure the resistance across the white wires. At room temperature the resistance should be 1000-1200 ohms.

If the sensor checks in this range the control is bad. If it is out of this range you need to remove the back panel of the range and disconnect the oven temperature sensor from the harness and check it again there. If it checks within the range there is a problem in the wiring harness. If it is out of the range the oven temperature sensor is bad.

Q:

Why is the orifice size in the kit different than the orifice size in the manual for my Kenmore range?

A:

The conversion of the range to LP should be completed by a qualified installer.

The instructions for the installation of the conversion kit are correct. If the LP kit did not contain the .38 LP orifice to convert the broiler, then I recommend returning the LP conversion kit and reordering it. It should have a green orifice stamped .38 in the kit for the broiler.
