Q:

Adjusting valves on craftsman lt1000

A:

Thank you for your question.

I will be happy to assist you. I looked up the model number of the engine on your tractor. The engine should be model 31C707-0230-E1. If this is the correct model number, the valves should be set to 0.004. I found a great video that shows how to adjust the valves. Click here to watch the video.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Q:

Adjusting valves

A:

Thank you for your question on the adjusting of the valves on the engine.

The .003 to .005 is a little tight but since you changed the cam shaft and timed it correctly that would have also replaced the compression release.

I think I would only lower the piston past top dead center a 1/4 inch in the cylinder not a 1/4 turn before setting the valves at .004 and .006. I understand that this may be splitting hairs but try it to see if it will help.

If you have had this problem for a while the starter windings may be damaged from trying to turn over the engine against the compression.

Please let me know what you find out with the new settings.
