Question and Answers

no spark 143426072 Craftsman Engine

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The ignition coil located under the flywheel has a ground wire connected to the ignition coil which is connected to the throttle assembly on the engine. When the throttle position is placed in the Stop or OFF position, the throttle assembly makes contact with the black wire which will ground the coil and kill spark and engine.  Make sure this black wire has not come disconnected and is shorted to ground or it will kill the spark to the spark plug.  If the black ground wire is not disconnected or shorted to ground, the coil assembly is likely faulty and will need to be replaced. To access the coil assembly, remove the engine cover and flywheel. The coil is attached with two bolts. When installing the coil assembly, leave the two bolts loose so that the magnetism of the flywheel magnets will pull the coil to the flywheel. You can place a paper match book cover between the coil and flywheel and let the magnet draw the coil to flywheel and then tighten the two bolts. Remove the paper match book cover and the gap is set to the proper gap. Re-connect the ground wire to the coil and spark plug wire. Re-install the flywheel and cover and test the operation. I hope this information is helpful.
