Q:

The transaxle is a Peerless model mst-206 -545c. How do I change the transaxle fluid in it? I found the fill plug but no drain plug.

A:

To drain the oil from the transaxle, you will have to remove the transaxle from the tractor. Turn the transaxle upside down and pour the oil out of the oil fill hole.

Q:

There is no gear oil plug on my replacement transaxle model hmst 206545c. It is for an lt 2000 mower. Is it shipped with oil?

A:

If the replacement transaxle does not have an oil filler plug, it must not use oil inside the transaxle.

Many 6 speed transaxles use grease instead of oil. The bearings, gears, and shafts are coated with grease and no oil is necessary.

Q:

2003 Craftsman LT1000 trans swap Craftsman LT1000 Model # 917.272751

A:

Thank you for your question.I will be happy to assist you. I looked up the transaxle model numbers. I suspect the Hydro Gear unit will mount to the tractor just fine. The problem you are going to run into is the shifter linkage. I found a 2002 model that should be the same as yours. You can use that model number to order the linkage parts. That model number is 917271661. You will also need to order the drive belt off that model. Before ordering any parts for the tractor, I recommend test fitting it first. You want to be sure that it will fit the tractor and the wheels fit without rubbing. I wish I could tell you exactly what you need to make this work but we cannot legally do this type of swap so we do not have any experience with it. You can order the parts from the following link. Craftsman tractor parts I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you need further assistance.    Thank you for using Manage my life. Mark
