Question and Answers

Q:

How do I install the small and large belts on the Kenmore 1410 Zig zag sewing machine?

A:

Thank you for your question on changing the drive belts for the sewing machine.

You will need to remove the top cover on the machine. Then locate the screws that hold the hand-wheel side cover and either loosen or remove.

Hinge out the top of the side cover slightly and pull up to remove the side cover from the body of the machine.

Locate and loosen the motor bracket screw and move the motor and bracket up in the tightening slot. Remove the motor drive belt. Then loosen the idler pulley screw in the middle of the pulley and remove the hand-wheel belt.

Reverse the order of installation by putting the hand-wheel belt on the hand-wheel pulley and then onto the idler pulley and then the smaller belt from the idler to the motor pulley.

Tension all belts with a 1/4 inch deflections in the middle of the belt gap half way between the two pulleys.

I hope this will help you with the belt replacement.

Please let me know how it went.

Snap Tape Sewing Directions

A:

Thank you for your question.

I can understand wanting to know which foot would work best for sewing on Snap Tape connectors.

I would recommend that you use the narrow zipper foot and just catch the very edge of the snap tape, just missing the snaps.

Pin the match line for both sides of the snap tape.

The stitch the very edge of the snap tape, keeping the snaps on the left side of the foot.

The zipper foot that comes with your machine may be a little wide. A narrower zipper foot that will fit your machine is part number 6792 and you can order this from: Sears Parts Direct .

This foot may make it easier if you think you will need it.

I hope this will help.

Thank you for using Manage My Life.
