Q:

What would cause my Maytag dryer to run 40 minutes and quits and then have to wait 1 hour before it will start again?

A:

Based on your symptom the drive motor is likely overheating and shutting off by the built-in motor thermal overload protector. Once the thermal overload protector opens it breaks the electrical circuit to the motor and the motor shuts off. Once the motor cools, the thermal overload protector resets and completes the electrical circuit so that the motor will run again.

This could be caused by:

  • Low voltage supply
  • Lint covered drive motor
  • Bad motor
  • Severe friction problem causing the motor to have to strain.
  • Worn drum support rollers or worn belt idler pulley.

I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your dryer.

Q:

Does 40:1 fuel to oil ratio mean 4 ounces of oil to 1 gallon of gas?

A:

No, 40:1 oil to fuel ration means mixing 40 equal parts of fuel to 1 equal part of oil. This means to add 3.2 ounces of 2 cycle oil to one gallon of gas in order to make a ratio of 40:1 fuel mixture. See image below.

Q:

I have a Craftsman weedwacker 79586 and want to verify the gas to oil mixture, is it 40:1? it's running rough and might be due to this not being the right mix

A:

Thank you for your question.

I can understand wanting to make sure you have the fuel mixture correct.

The fuel mixture of 40:1, 3.2 oz. of oil is correct for this model. That would require a good grade of 2 cycle oil for air cooled engines. Not outboard motor mix oil.

How long has it been since you changed the spark plug? Did you leave the old gas in the trimmer during the off season?

If you are still having problems with your trimmer please reply and I will be happy to help you further. I hope this information will help.

Thank you for using Manage My Life.
