Question and Answers

Q:

My Garage Door opener model No#13953991SRT Quit Working

A:

Thank you for your question the garage door opener not driving the screw and trolley.

Don is exactly right with his diagnosis of the problem.

If the motor unit runs then the drive coupling between the drive hub and the screw drive is stripped.

If you watch the drive unit while it is running you will be able to tell for sure.

As Don Say’s it will not be a very difficult repair and if you have some basic tools you can do this.

I have given you an image of the parts Don and I are referring too.

Please let us know how it went.

Sam A.

Thank you for the update on the door opener. If the motor is running and the shaft is not turing, then you will need to remove the outer cover on the motor unit and examine the drive belt and drive hubs inside the unit. It could be a simple as a broken belt. Please let me know what you find out. Sam A.

Thank you for the update. Disconnect the door from the trolley. Let’s try this: Run the trolley all the way down to the far enc for the door to be closed. Remove the limit switch assembly and by hand run the center contact all the down so it touches the brown wire contact. Then re-install it back onto the motor unit. With the trolley in the closed position push the wall control to see if the trolley will come up and shut off at the yellow contact. Then try it again to see if it will go all the way down to the closed position. The sensors only affect the down or closing of the door not the opening of the door. Also make sure the black interrupter cup is pushed in all the way into the rpm sensor reader. Please let me know how this goes. Once you have it going up and down correctly you can grease the trolley right at the trolley only. Don’t put a lot of grease on there because to much grease with drop onto any cars below. Sam A.

Thank you for the update. If the limit switch is not already contacting the down limit you should be able to hold the wall button down until it stops. Please let me know how it works out. Sam A.

Thank you for the update. I am sure it can be fixed but it may cost as much or more to fix it as to replace it. The door trolley should have been traveling in the up travel until it got to the yellow wire and stopped. Then when you push the button again the door should go down. If it only goes a short distance it relates to the sensor system having a broken wire or both sensor are not lit brightly. You may have to have service check the opener or replace the unit. For the price of the service call and parts you can purchase a new opener. Sam A.
