Your symptoms indicate that you probably have some worn drive components in the garage door opener. I recommend that you unplug the garage door opener and check those drive components. Q:

My garage door opener only goes up about 1 foot and the light on the back of the panel keeps blinking. What's wrong?

A:

I need you to check some things and send another email. Pull the emergency release on the trolley of the garage door opener. Open and close the garage door several times and see if it gets hard to move where it is stopping.

Count the flashes on the led on the motor unit. If it is flashing and pausing it is a code. I am sending you the flash codes for the opener. When you press down, does it go down? Was some work just done on the opener?

If you will answer these questions we will be able to give you an idea what is causing the problem. The flash codes might solve the problem for you.

Q:

Why won't my GDO close?

A:

If the capacitor were bad, the motor would not run. Any problem can be caused by the logic board. When the door moves and stops and no lights blink it is usually a bad rpm sensor.

Hold the button on the wall control in and see if the door will close. If it closes this way the problem is in the door sensor circuit. If it still stops, replace the rpm sensor.
