Question and Answers

Q:

I have a Craftsman garage door opener, which when I open it,it opens all the way then releases and closes. How do I stop my garage door from releasing and closing?

A:

In normal operation if the garage door opener senses an obstruction when the door is traveling down it will reverse and return to the open position. If the opener senses an obstruction when the door is traveling up the opener will stop, but it will not reverse.

For the opener to open fully then return to closed, something has to be triggering a button on a remote or the wall switch. Do some experimenting with your controls. Does the door only reverse when you are using the wall switch? Only when using the remotes?

Remove the battery from all remotes and open the door with the wall switch. Be sure you are releasing the button completely after the door starts up or down. I suspect you will find something unusual about the wall switch or a remote.
