A:

Thank you for your question as to if the garage door opener can be repaired.

Yes the opener can be repaired by replacing the gear kit part number: 41A2817.

You will need a few basic tools if you feel comfortable with tanking the motor unit down from the ceiling and replacing the gears.

The gear kit does come with instructions on the replacement kit.

Q:

changed gear on garage door opener after only two weeks the gear is once again shredded model #13953674srt1 how to troubleshoot

A:

Thank you for your question on the replacement gears on the garage door opener.

The usual reason for the gears to fail is that the door is too heavy and puts to much torque on the gears.

I would suggest that you release the door from the opener and then lift the door to waist level and release the door to see if it slams to the floor. It should not move more that 4 inches up or down when you let go of the door.

If it slams to the floor then the door is out of balance and you will need to have a garage door technician balance the door or replace a broken balance spring.

The other reason for the gears to fail is if you either did not replace both the main gear and the worm gear and or did not use all the grease supplied with the kit.

Please let me know what you find out and we can continue to troubleshoot with that information.
