Thanks for contacting I understand how frustrating it is having trouble with broken plastic gears on the garage door opener. We are here to help. Since you found broken gears inside the opener, it does need a gear kit. Also, since the worm gear is slipping, replace it too. Make sure the gears are lubricated with the grease that comes with the gear kit. I also recommend checking the door spring. That is the most common cause of the gears breaking. To check the door spring, release the door from the opener and open the door manually waist high and let go. If the door slowly closes or slams down, the door spring is out of adjustment. The door spring supports the door, not the opener. When it comes to adjusting door spring, I recommend letting a professional fix the problem. If the door stays in place, the spring is adjusted properly.
