Question and Answers

Q:

I installed a new drive and worm gear in my garage door opener. Can I test the motor before hooking it up?

A:

You can test the motor without the chain being attached. The motor will run until the limit switch turns it off. When you have everything hooked up if the door doesn't open or close all the way you might need to synchronize the limit switch with the position of the trolley.

When you removed the worm gear you removed the small gear that drives the up and down limit switch. In the process of the repair the limit switch and the position of the trolley might have gotten out of synchronization.

You need to open or close the door and remove this small gear again. Manually turn the limit switch so the center contact almost touches the up or down contact to match the location of the trolley. Install the drive gear and adjust the up and down limits properly.

Q:

old garage door opener model # 13953413

A:

I checked for a universal kit for that model but I did not find one. There is not a way to add sensors to that model of garage door opener. I recommend that you consider replacing it with the least expensive current model. Here is a Sears.com link for the least expensive Craftsman model that I found online: Craftsman Garage Door Opener 1/2 hp Chain Drive, Security+ Anti-Burglary Coding . Here is a link for the manual on that model: Craftsman Garage Door Opener 139.53930 Owner's Manual/Installation Guide .

NOTE: Even if a conversion kit was available for your existing opener, the cost of the kit and the labor for installation would be about the same as buying the model described above.

I hope that this information helps. If you need more assistance, let us know.

Q:

Is a model 13953413 garage door opener compatible with 41a42076r circuit board?

A:

Leave the black and yellow wires in the harness and plug the new logic board in normally. The orange and white wires connect to the light socket.

The work light is the light bulb mounted on the garage door opener. The vacation feature locks out the remotes so the door can't be opened with a remote.

The 41a4207-6R board should work with your 139.53413 opener.
