Question and Answers

What does error 13 mean?

The E: 13 is a drain pump issue (drain pump time exceeded). It may be a faulty drain pump, bad wiring, or a clogged drain hose.

I have included a set of illustrated instructions (See below). These should step you through the process of examining the drain pump and its components.

This is a very labor intensive do it yourself project, if you are not completely confident in your repair skills, I recommend calling a service company to diagnose and repair your appliance.

If you need more assistance please resubmit question with more details. I will be looking forward to helping you again in the near future.

Note: Our imaging system is malfunctioning. I would like to apologize in advance if the attachments do not appear online.

Kenmore dryer does not heat

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

There could be one out of many possible reasons why your dryer is not heating. First, the dryer must have a 220 volt power supply or it will run but not heat. Check for a tripped circuit breaker dedicated for the dryer. There will be two circuit breakers dedicated for the dryer. Reset both breakers by flipping them OFF and ON 2-3 times and then start the dryer and see if it heats. If it doesn't heat, the voltage supply should be checked and confirmed before any further diagnostics are performed. NOTE: I do not recommend checking and confirming voltage unless you have experience and feel safe and confident in doing so, otherwise I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your dryer.

It could have one of the following component failures listed below:

  • Timer
  • Operating thermostat (key#42)
  • Thermal cut-off (key#47)
  • High limit thermostat (key#48)
  • Heating element (key#14)
  • Motor centrifugal switch
  • Lack of proper voltage (220 volt)
I added an image below to reference key numbers.

The operating thermostat, thermal cut off, high limit thermostat and heater can be disconnected and tested for continuity with an ohm meter. You will likely find one of the four measuring no continuity. Which ever component measures open/no continuity, replace that component.

I added a YouTube video showing how to test the heating element. This test also applies to testing the other 3 components as well.

To access these components, remove the front lower access panel. See image below.

I have a 1 year old Samsung dryer / gas that doesn't heat. I know it is getting gas and after setting a 44 minute dry cycle it counts down to 00 in five minuwh

According to your description, it sounds like the dryer may be detecting that the clothes are dry and is immediately going to the cool down portion of the cycle and shutting off. You could have a disconnected wire on the moisture sensor bars or a coating of residue that is preventing the bars from detecting moisture. Those moisture sensor bars are normally located just inside the dryer door on the inlet to the lint screen. I provided an image of the moisture sensor bars on a typical Samsung dryer in the image below. I recommend that you check those moisture sensor bars. If they are coated with fabric softener and lint, you can clean them using a cloth and rubbing alcohol. If the sensor bars are clean, you can unplug the dryer and pull out the lint screen. Check the wires that are connected to the sensor bars. If you find one disconnected, then reconnecting the wire may fix this problem.

If these tips don't help, you could have a control board problem or a loose wire connection at the control board. Reply with additional details and the full model number of your Samsung dryer. We will provide more specific troubleshooting once we receive additional information.
