Question and Answers

Q:

why did Kenmore Elite electric range oven not work after self cleaning?

A:

The most likely cause of this failure is a problem with the thermal cut-off switch. This switch is circled in green on the wiring diagram in the first image. A photograph of the part from the RepairClinic.com website is shown in the second image. This switch has a red reset button. The location of this component is shown on the parts drawing in the third image. It is Key 119. The thermal cut-off switch is mounted on the outside back of the lower oven. I recommend that you unplug the range and pull it out to access this switch. Try pressing the red button to reset it. This will likely fix your problem.

If resetting this switch does not restore heat to the lower oven then you could have a bad thermal cut-off switch, a failed electronic oven control board or a wiring failure in the circuit. If the range is still under warranty, I recommend that you have it serviced by a technician. Call Sears at 1-800-469-4663 (1-800-4MY-HOME) for warranty service. Even if the range is not under warranty, it may still need service if resetting the thermal cut-off switch does not fix this problem. Q:

What is an E1 error?

A:

Your digital display should have shown a F1 and not an E1 error code. F1 indicates a primary control failure. Meaning the machine control board will need to be replaced. I recommend calling a service technician to repair your dryer.
