Question and Answers

Q:

Why does the new door gasket for my LG washer model WM1832CW have holes in the 12:00 & 6:00 positions even though my old one does not?

A:

The gasket for this washer changed on models produced after September 20, 2007. According to your details, I assume that the serial number of your washer begins with numbers less than 709KW******* (i.e. 702KW1234567). Washers of this model produced before September 20, 2007 had the gaskets without the drain holes.

The original gasket that did not have holes is part number 4986ER0001A (only the last letter changes from C to A). If you order this gasket, it should not have the drain holes that the new gasket part 4986ER0001C has.

I recommend that you try ordering the gasket 4986ER0001A to resolve this problem. If that gasket does not fit, then you will likely need original gasket 4986ER0001B that some technical information indicates will fit this model of washer.

If neither of those parts work then you can replace the whole tub cover assembly by ordering part 3551ER0003C. Using all of the parts in this assembly would resolve your problem with incompatible parts. This assembly has the new gasket and the new tub cover that match. If you replace the whole tub cover assembly then you will likely need to replace the counterweights (part 4866ER0004A) since this new counterweight part will have a notch that will not interfere with the drain in the new tub cover.

If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details and the full serial number of your LG washer.

NOTE: Special tools (pliers 383EER4001A and 383EER4004A) are normally needed to properly remove and replace the gasket on this type of washer. You may consider having a service technician replace the gasket instead of buying these tools that you would likely only use one time. Q:

What does the selector knob say when in the 12:00 position on a Kenmore 417 electric dryer?

A:

NORMAL cycle would be considered the 12:00 position on the type of dryer that you are describing. You may need the information in the tech sheet shown below. This sheet has technical information and tests for dryers with a digital display.

Be careful when using this technical information. Follow electrical safety guidelines. Unplug the dryer before accessing any internal components.

If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details.

Q:

my washer won't spin out the water; how do we get to the guts of the machine? is it belt or something else?

A:

Thank you for your question.

If the belt is broken, the washer would not agitate either. I have provided you with the instructions below showing how to remove the front panel. First, unplug the unit from the wall. Then remove the front panel. The belt should be on the motor and the gear case pulley. The idler pulley is spring loaded and should put tension on the belt. If you find the belt is correctly routed carefully, plug the washer in and start a spin cycle. Watch the belt and make sure it is turning. If the belt is turning I suspect there is a gear case problem.

If you need further assistance, please add more details below.
