Question and Answers

Q:

Maytag washer machine doesn't spin but filled with water

A:

That type of voltage drop when the washer is plugged in is very unusual. You could have a problem with the outlet or you could have short in one of the washer components.

Check to see if you get that same voltage drop when you plug a different appliance or a lamp into that outlet. If the outlet is bad, then you will need to have an electrician fix that problem.

If possible, you can try plugging the washer into a different outlet. See if you get the same voltage drop when it is plugged in. If you do, then I recommend that you have a service technician examine the washer. Here is a link for the Sears Service website: Sears Home Services .

Q:

Why does our Sears Kenmore dryer turn (tumble) but does not produce any heat?

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The first thing to check and confirm is the voltage supply. The heating element must have a 220 volt power source or it will not heat. Locate the two house circuit breakers dedicated for the dryer and reset both circuit breakers. Flip both breakers off and on 2-3 times and then see if the dryer will heat. If continues to run and not heat, the voltage supply should be checked and measured across the two outer terminals on the terminal block. The terminal block is located on the back of the dryer and the power cord will be connected to it. NOTE: I do not recommend making voltage measurements unless you have experience and feel safe and confident in doing so; otherwise I suggest calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your dryer.

If 220 volts is measured, then it could have a broken/burnt out heating element, faulty thermal cutoff, high limit thermostat, operating thermostat, timer or a faulty motor centrifugal switch.

The heating element, thermal cut off, high limit, operating thermostat can be disconnected and tested with an Ohm meter for continuity. Which ever one measures open/no continuity would need to be replaced. These components are located behind the rear panel. I recommend disconnecting the power cord and then remove the rear panel. Each one of the components can be accessed, disconnected and tested for continuity.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Q:

I have a Kenmore Gas Grill, model 14115225. I just purchased new parts and now it doesn't work. Can you help me?

A:

Does your side burner work? Can you get a small flame on one burner by lighting it with a match? Did you have a flame before you installed the new burners? Do you have propane in the tank for your grill?

If you will send another email and answer these questions and add any information about what has been done we can help you repair the grill.
