Question and Answers

Q:

11628615801 vac motor skips. Why ?

A:

If the motor is shutting on and off, you could have a problem with the wiring between the canister and the Powermate. Wires run through the hose between the canister and the wand handle. Check the hose for cracks or tears in the wire coils that spiral through the hose. You can check the wiring connections in the hose and the handle by following the procedures shown in the image below if necessary.

You could have a wiring connection problem in the wand or the Powermate that would also cause the motor to shut on and off.

If the motor is straining or hesitating, check the endcaps of the roller brush for a build-up of hair or debris. Here is a link for your owner's manual that describes this process (page 17) in case you need it: Owner's Manual .

A bad motor in the Powermate could also cause this problem.

If you are not able to determine the cause of the motor problem, I recommend that you have the vacuum cleaner serviced at a Sears Repair Center. Here is a link for the Sears Service website that provides drop-off locations and labor pricing: Sears Home Services . Most locations have a flat rate pricing structure for vacuum cleaner repair that is very reasonable.

Q:

Installation the parts to the wand length adjustment button from vacuum model 11628615801

A:

Thank you for your question on the replacement of the wand slide control button parts.

You will need to use a small flat bladed screwdriver to push down and forward to disengage the plastic tabs on the cover for the thumb control.

There is a pin and a couple of springs to keep the pin in the locking divot on the metal tube.

Be careful when you pop open the cover because the parts like to spring out of position.

I will give you a picture below as to how to get the cover off the handle wand.

Thank you.

I am sorry that did not help. It is difficult to explain and show you how to put this back together again. There are two springs that you will need to capture under this thumb control knob and the cap over the top can only go on one way. I will give you a couple more pictures but if may be possible that the inside of the knob tabs are broken and you may need a new knob to get this to work. Note the location of the springs on the ends of the side with the pin laying in the detent on the metal tube. The springs are there to keep presser on the pin to stay in the detents, and when you move the knob with your thumb it lets the pin come out of the detent and you are able to adjust the length.
