Hello glad to help.  Thank You for choosing Sears
I am sorry and do understand your frustration when needing parts for the Wet/dry Vacuum.
Glad to help out.   Im  looking at Craftsman Wet/Dry Vacuum model number 113.170340.

I have the regular paper filters available and have a high-efficiency reuseable filter.   I have it on the link below.

What would have caused my wet/dry vacuum to spark and not work when it was plugged in?

If the On/Off toggle switch was in the off position when she plugged it in, it should not have any voltage applied to the motor and only the switch. If the switch was off when she plugged it in, may be the power cord shorted out. If the On/Off switch was on when she plugged it in may be the On/Off switch shorted to ground or the motor windings shorted.

There is no "Reset" button and No, the On/Off switch is not necessarily going to burn up before the motor. The first thing to check and verify is the electrical connections to the On/off switch and motor. The On/Off switch and motor should be tested with a volt/ohm meter to see if the motor windings are shorted.

To access the motor and On/Off switch:

  • Remove the lid w/motor and remove the screws under the bottom of the lid securing the motor cover.
  • Inspect the power cord and motor for any signs of an electrical short.

If it needs a new motor, I recommend purchasing a new wet/dry vacuum.
