Question and Answers

Q:

My dryer in a gas dryer and no longer heats up. The pilot light is out I believe but it was said I shouldn't try to light myself. It still spins the dryer.

A:

This dryer has a glow bar ignition system. The theory of operation for that system is shown in the third image below. Since your igniter is not glowing, you could have a blown thermal fuse or a number of other failures in that heating circuit. The first image shows a wiring diagram with that heating circuit traced in red. The second image shows the location of some major components in that circuit including the thermal fuse. I recommend that you unplug the dryer and check the thermal fuse first. Remove the back panel to access the thermal fuse that is shown in the second image. Here is a brief video that shows how to test that fuse: Thermal Fuse Testing . If that fuse is blown, it will need to be replaced. You can order parts from the Sears PartsDirect website. Be sure that you check the exhaust vent duct system as shown in that video if the thermal fuse was blown.

If the thermal fuse is okay, you could have a problem with one of the other components in that heating circuit. Reply with additional details if you need more help with this problem.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

You Kenmore dryer has motor and it is replaceable. The part number of the motor is 279827 and can be ordered from Sears PartsDirect

I added a YouTube video showing how to remove and replace the dryer motor. NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before servicing your dryer.
