Question and Answers

Q:

Dryer not heating up 11092822103 Kenmore Residential dryer

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

Since you have gas dryer it will not use a heating element for the heat source. In order to heat, the control board must supply 120 volts to the glow bar igniter. The igniter must glow or the gas valve will never open.

There are several components connected in a series circuit in the voltage supply to the glow bar igniter which could fail and prevent voltage from making it to glow bar igniter.

  1. Thermal fuse
  2. High limit thermostat
  3. Flame sensor
Remove the front lower access panel and then start the dryer and wait to see if the glow bar igniter is glowing red or not. If the igniter glows red and then fades off without burner ignition, the two solenoid coils sitting on top of the gas valve assembly are weak and should be replaced.

If the glow bar igniter is not glowing, it could have broken igniter preventing it from glowing. The glow bar igniter can be disconnected and then tested for continuity/resistance with an Ohm meter. If the igniter measures Ohm resistance, the next component to disconnect and test for continuity is the thermal fuse. The thermal fuse is mounted on top of the blower wheel housing and it will likely have two (2) red wires attached to it. The thermal fuse must measure continuity or the voltage supply will be broken to the igniter and gas valve assembly. If the thermal fuse does not measure continuity, replace the thermal fuse and your dryer will likely heat again. NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before removing the front lower access panel.

Check the things I have covered here and if I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.
