Question and Answers

Q:

washer won't spin 11092596100 Kenmore Washer

A:

After the washer drains in the spin mode, lift the lid to stop the washer. Close the lid and see if the basket starts spinning. If it does, then you have a defective timer. The timer should pause about a minute after the washer enters the drain/spin cycle to set the spin pawl. Lifting the lid simulates that timer pause.

If that doesn't help, then see if the washer agitates. If the washer doesn't agitate or spin even though it drains, then you likely have a broken motor coupler. Follow the steps in this repair guide to replace the motor coupler if it's broken:  How to Replace the Motor Coupler on a Top-Load Washer.

If the washer does agitate (agitator moves in the wash mode) then you could have a failed clutch or a problem in the drive system.

Let us know if you need more help diagnosing and fixing this failure in your washer.

Q:

why does my washer not spin

A:

If the washer fills and agitates but stops and will not drain or spin, then you could have a failed lid switch (part 285671). You unplug the washer and bypass this lid switch with an insulated jumper wire as shown in the image below. The wires going to your lid switch will be Tan and Gray according to the wiring diagram. If you bypass the lid switch and it runs in the drain and spin mode then the lid switch will need to be replaced. You can order this part from the Sears PartsDirect website.

NOTE: Do not continue to operate the washer with this lid switch bypassed. It is an important safety feature that must be replaced.

Be sure that you unplug the washer to disconnect electrical power before accessing internal components.

If you need to replace the lid switch, you can use the information shown below to access that component.

You could have bad clutch, problem with the drive block or a broken basket drive. A failed transmission could also cause this problem. The image below shows how to access the mechanical components in the drive system. You may be able to determine the cause of this spin failure by using the information shown below. If you need more help, reply with additional details.

For Maria: If the motor is not running to drain and spin the washer, then I recommend that you check the lid switch. This component will prevent the motor from running in the drain/spin mode. If the motor is running and the washer is draining but the basket is not spinning, then you could have a problem with the clutch or a number of other components. This washer does not have a belt. It has a direct drive transmission. The spin theory is explained in the image below. I provided a Repair Clinic.com link that shows how to remove the transmission and replace the clutch below this response. This information may help you determine the cause of your spin failure. If you need more help, reply with additional details about your failure. We will be glad to help you further once we receive more information.

Q:

Why Wont my Kenmore (model number 11092596100) not spin during spin cycle?

A:

There is a possibility that you have a timer problem if the washer does not pause after it starts draining in that spin cycle. The timer will normally pause after the washer drains for several minutes. This will set the spin pawl so that the basket will begin to rotate. If the timer does not execute that pause in the drain/spin portion of the cycle, then the basket will never rotate. You can simulate that pause by lifting the lid after the washer drains the water out of the tub. Start the washer and allow it to agitate for several minutes. Push the knob in and move the timer to the drain/spin portion of the cycle. Allow the washer to drain the water for a few minutes and then lift the lid. Leave the lid open for about 10 seconds. Shut the lid and see if the basket begins to spin. If it does, then replacing the timer (part 3946475) will probably repair this failure. You can order that part from this page: Timer for Kenmore Washer Model 110.92596100 . Be sure that you unplug the washer before accessing and replacing internal components.

If the washer still will not spin after simulating that timer pause in the drain/spin mode, then I recommend that you check to see if the agitator is working in the wash portion of the cycle. If that agitator is not moving, then you probably have a broken motor coupler (part 285753A). You can access that component as shown in this video . If you verify that the motor coupler is broken, then you can order that part from this page: Drive Motor Coupler for Kenmore Washer Model 110.92596100 .

If the washer agitates properly, then you could have a problem with the basket drive or the drive block. Here is a link for a previous answer that describes troubleshooting and repair for that type of failure: loud noise when tub turns in top loading washing machine .

I hope that this information helps. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.

You could have a failed clutch that would prevent the washer from spinning. I posted a video below that shows how to access that clutch.
