Question and Answers

Q:

F1 Fault

A:

That F-01 code indicates that you have a primary control board failure.  I posted the technical information for that problem in the image below. If you want to fix the dryer yourself, you can order the control board from this page: Electronic Control Board for Kenmore Dryer Model 110.86742700.

The image below shows how to access and replace that control board. Be sure that you unplug the dryer before accessing internal components and replacing parts.

If you prefer to have a service technician examine and repair the dryer, you can schedule service through this link: Sears Home Services Dryer Repair.

Q:

Dryer not working

A:

That link for a previous answer that Anna T. posted in the above response provides some good information about this type of failure. That F-01 code normally indicates that you have a machine control board failure. You can try to clear that code by unplugging the dryer to completely disconnect electrical power for 5 minutes. If that code continues to appear after plugging the dryer back in, then I recommend that you check that moisture sensor wire as described in that previous answer. The first image below shows the typical place where that sensor wire can be grounded to the metal cabinet. The bottom photo shows a wire that was shorted to ground due to a screw from that lint duct being driven through it. The second image shows access for that lint duct and the moisture sensor. Be sure that you unplug the dryer before accessing internal components. If you find no problems with that moisture sensor wiring in that area, then you will need to replace that machine control board (part W10141671). You can order that part from the Sears PartsDirect website. Here is a direct link for that part: Electronic Control . Unplug the dryer before accessing and replacing internal components. The procedure for replacing that control board is shown in the 3rd image.
