From what you're describing it sounds like the lint screen housing is binding up the lint screen preventing it from coming out completely, or too much lint has accumulated on the screen & when you tried to pull it out it got in a bind & is stuck there. This is pretty rare but not unheard of. If you cannot force the lint screen out manually, the complete duct assembly will have to be replaced along with the lint screen.

First, disconnect power to the dryer.

Carefully pull the dryer out & remove the rear panel, use caution around sharp metal edges. You will see the lint chute on the left. Follow the diagram provided below for removal instructions.
