Question and Answers

Q:

kenmore gas dryer does not heat

A:

Make sure that the gas supply shut-off valve for the dryer is fully open. Check the gas supply going to the dryer.

Your details seem to indicate that the igniter on that gas valve assembly is glowing. I assume that you pulled out the observation plug below the door on the front panel and observed the burner assembly while the dryer is running in a heated cycle. Since the igniter is glowing, most of the components in that circuit are apparently okay. Check to see if the igniter shuts off every few minutes to initiate the burner lighting process. The image below shows the theory of operation for that burner assembly. If that igniter fades out as described below but the burner will not ignite, then you will probably need to replace the gas valve coils (kit part 279834). You can order that kit from the Sears PartsDirect website. Here is a link for a video that shows how to replace those coils: Dryer Gas Valve Coil Replacement . This information should help you repair that dryer failure. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.
