Q:

gas dryer

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

I suspect one of two possible issues causes the symptom you have; a restricted or kinked vent hose or it may have weak solenoid coils on the gas valve assembly. Check the vent system for any kinks or restrictions in the vent hose and also check the outside vent hood too. If the vent system is Okay, then I would suspect the solenoid coils are getting weak and not always opening the gas valve.

Below the door is a square plastic inspection hole cover. Pry the cover off and then pull up a chair and watch the glow bar igniter and burner operation. If you find the glow bar igniter glowing red and then fading off without burner ignition, the solenoid coils art weak and should be replaced.

In order to access the gas valve assembly and coils, the front panel must be taken off. Remove the lint filter and remove the two screws that were hidden by the lint filter. Located between the top and the front panel are two spring clips holding the top down. The clips are located about 3-4 inches inwards from each corner. Use a putty knife to slip in between the top and front panel directly in front of the spring clips. Push inwards and hold pressure while lifting that corner of the top up a little and repeat the steps for the other side. Hinge the top open and let it lean up against the wall. Next step is to remove each screw on the inner side near the top securing the front panel to each side panel. Tilt the top of the front panel out enough to disconnect the door switch and then lift the front panel up and off. I added an image below showing how to remove and replace the two solenoid coils. NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before servicing the dryer.
