Question and Answers

Q:

How do I get access to the front of my Kenmore gas dryer?

A:

This dryer has a lower service panel (Key 61 on the image below) that can be removed by releasing the clips (Key 46) at the top. Push a putty knife in between the bottom service panel and the front panel of the dryer to release each clip and then pull the service panel out and off of the dryer. You should be able to access most internal components by removing this service panel.

Q:

How do I access the burner unit to change the igniter?

A:

Note : Disconnect the power cord before removing the lower panel.

To access the gas valve/burner assembly remove the panel below the door. I added 2 images showing the lower panel clips and the gas valve/burner assembly showing the igniter.

To remove the lower panel you will need to insert a putty knife between the door panel and the lower panel. Push downwards on the top of each retainer (key# 46) and tilt the top of the panel forwards and then lift it up and off the lower clip (key# 19).

Once the lower panel is off the second image will show you the gas valve/burner assembly. The burner assembly will be located on the lower left side under the drum. Key# 4 in the first image is the igniter. Remove the screw (key# 5) to remove the igniter. It will have a quick disconnect plug to disconnect.

Be very careful in handling the new igniter. Do not touch the part that gets hot. The igniter is very fragile and will break very easily too.

Reverse the procedure to reassemble the dryer.
