Question and Answers

Q:

How to remove the lower panel on Kenmore Elite Dryer (3yrs old) 110-66972501

A:

Thank you for your question. Several different problems could prevent your dryer from heating. I recommend checking the breakers for the dryer first. The dryer will run if only one 120 volt leg of the 240 volt power is supplied to the dryer. If the second leg of 120 volt power is not supplied, the dryer will not heat. If the breakers are okay, I recommend checking the voltage at the outlet using the first image below as a guide. NOTE: You should only check this live voltage if you are completely confident in your technical ability to safely measure this live outlet voltage with a volt/ohm meter.

You are correct if the dryer is not heating, it very well could be a failed thermal fuse, thermostat, or element. If the vent is restricted, it will greatly reduce the life of these parts. Once you have the dryer repaired, I strongly recommend checking the venting. I have provided you with the instructions for opening the dyer up to access these parts. Please make sure to unplug the dryer before servicing. To check the parts with a meter remove at least one wire and ohm the component. The reading should be close to zero ohms. If you get an open or ol reading the part is defective. The element should be 7.8 to 11.8 ohms. If the thermal fuse, thermostat, or element check out ok the problem could be a timer or a motor. I hope this is helpful.
