Question and Answers

What would have caused my dryer to quit heating all of a sudden?

There could be one of several different component failures preventing your dryer from heating. The first item to check is the circuit breakers. Your dryer has two circuit breakers dedicated for the dryer. Locate the two breakers dedicated for the dryer inside the house circuit breaker box and flip both circuit breakers OFF and back ON 2-3 times and then check the dryer for heat.

If the dryer fails to heat it could have one of the following component failures:

  • Timer
  • Thermal cutoff (key#1)
  • Operating thermostat (key#42)
  • Hi-limit thermostat (key#34)
  • Heating element (key#14)
  • Burnt wire
  • Voltage supply
  • Motor centrifugal switch

I added the wiring diagram and a parts image to use as a reference to the key numbers mentioned above.

In order to properly diagnose the failure will require checking and verifying the voltage supply and testing each component that is wired in series with the heating element. It will require removing the wires from the component and testing it for continuity with an ohm meter.

I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your dryer.
