Question and Answers

Q:

Kenmore Elite model 11063022101

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern. Additional details would be helpful in knowing if it has to sit for a few minutes before it can be restarted or if it would start immediately after it shut off. If it has to sit awhile before it can be restarted, then the motor is likely overheating due to the motor being covered in lint or an exhaust leak.

It would also be helpful to know if you’re using the "Timed Dry" cycle or the "Auto Moisture Sensing" cycle. If you’re using the "Auto Moisture Sensing" cycle and you do not have a full load, the dryer can shut off before the clothes are dry because there are not enough articles in the drum to make contact with the two moisture sensor strips located on the lint filter intake grill. If the metal sensor strips are coated with fabric softener residue, it will not be able to sense moisture. Try cleaning the sensor bars with alcohol and then see how it works.

If one of the two wires happens to work loose on the sensor strips, the dryer will shut off also within a few minutes if the timer is set to "Auto Moisture Sensing". If it does not sense moisture, the dryer will shut off within a few minutes.

You can remove the lint filter intake grill from inside the dryer drum and check the wiring connections. Remove the two screws and the grill can be pulled out. See image below.

Q:

I replaced the dry start switch and the problem cont. 11063022101 Kenmore Electric dryer

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

I added an image below of the wiring diagram to reference the motor circuit. I traced the motor circuit and circled the areas to check. In order for the motor to remain running after the start button is released, contacts 5M and 6M must close as soon as the motor starts. If the Black wire connected to terminal 6M is loose, broken or disconnect; the motor will not remain running. If the contacts 5M and 6M are not closing after the motor starts, the motor will not remain running. If the wire connections are okay, the likely failure is the motor centrifugal switch. The centrifugal switch could have lint built up around the switch actuator preventing the centrifugal switch from closing the contacts. The centrifugal switch is part of the motor assembly and is not available as separate part.

The centrifugal switch contacts 5M and 6M can be tested using an Ohm meter. You will need to disconnect the power cord and disconnect the wire from terminal 5M and 6M. Behind the switch on the motor shaft will be black round piece of plastic that must slide in and out on the shaft in order to close the switch. You will manual have to slide the black disc back and forth to make sure it moves. Place the one Ohm meter lead on terminal 5M and the other Ohm meter lead on terminal 6M and then slide the black round disc towards the switch and see if the Ohm meter measures continuity. If it does not measure continuity, contacts 5M and 6M are not closing; that would prevent the motor from remaining on. See additional images below.
