Question and Answers

Q:

Electric company power surge caused the the start button to stop working unless it is held down manually. What part do you think needs to be replaced? 11061202010 Kenmore Electric dryer

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

This model dryer has a push to start relay switch. When the start button is pushed, 120 volts is provided to one terminal of the push to start relay. When voltage is applied, the relay coil should energize to keep the push to start switch closed. Based on you symptom, I suspect the push to start relay has failed and will likely need to be replaced. I added an image below of the wiring diagram. I traced the push to start circuit between the timer, door switch and motor.

If the relay is not staying closed in order to connect the two light blue wires on the push to start switch, the dryer will shut off when the push to start switch is released.

The push to start relay switch for Kenmore dryer model 110.61202010 is part #W10117655 which can be ordered from Searspartsdirect.

The push to start switch can be accessed and replaced from behind the control panel. Remove the screws and panel from behind the control panel. NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before servicing.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.
