Question and Answers

My kenmore dryer isn't heating and trimmer knob isn't moving.

Check to see if the timer will advance when you use a timed cycle. If not, then you may have a voltage supply problem. You can check the house circuit breakers to see if one is tripped. The dryer will still run if it has the L1 leg of power supplied to the dryer (traced in red on the wiring diagram in the image below). If the L2 leg of 240 volt power is missing, then the dryer will not heat and the timer will not advance in the timed or auto cycles. The L2 leg of power is traced in green on the wiring diagram in the image below.

If the house circuit breakers are okay, then you may need to check the voltage at the outlet as shown in this brief video: Perform a Voltage Check on a 240 Volt Outlet.

If the dryer outlet has the correct voltage, then you could have a problem with the outlet cord, the internal wiring, the motor centrifugal switch or the dryer timer motor (the dryer timer motor would not prevent the dryer from heating).

If the timer advances properly in the timed mode but not in the auto mode, then you could have a broken heating element in the dryer. I recommend that you unplug the dryer and check the element for damage in that situation. You can access that element by removing the back panel of the dryer.
