Question and Answers

Q:

Model # 110 47571603 11047571603 Kenmore Residential washer

A:

The 5d (or Sd) indicates that the control detects excessive suds. The drain pump cannot pump out the water when excessive suds are present. Make sure that you are using HE (High Efficiency) detergent in the appropriate amount in the washer. You should only need about 1 tablespoon of HE detergent per load. Cut back the amount of detergent if necessary.

If you do not see excessive suds in the tub, then you could have a problem with the drain pump. Reply with additional details if you need more help.

Q:

Washing machine

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

Based on your symptom and details it sounds like the tub bearings are worn out and it could also have a broken spin basket.

To verify that a bearing problem exists, perform the following checks:

  • Spin the basket by hand and listen for the bearing to make noise. A good bearing should be almost completely silent. Bad bearings will generate loud and inconsistent sound like rattling, grinding, or the tub will be harder to turn.
  • Pull on the basket towards the front of the machine and see if it moves in relation to the tub. Good bearings will not allow it to move.
  • Push upwards on the spin basket at the front and then rotate the basket and push up and continue doing this and make note if there appears to be some up and down play.
  • Run an empty load in a Spin only cycle and listen for the bearing. During high spin the growling, grinding, sound will become VERY apparent.

If it spin basket appear to have up and down play, the bearings will need to be replaced and most likely the spin basket.

Removing and replacing the rear tub assembly and spin basket should be performed by a service technician.

Q:

Problem with Fabric Softener Dispenser

A:

That link for a previous answer that Joseph P. posted in the above response covers this type of dispenser problem. If there is only a small amount of water in the dispenser, this is normal. Your details seem to indicate that you have more than a small amount in that dispenser compartment. You can clean the dispenser as described in that previous answer. This may help solve this issue. You can also check the leveling of the washer. If those basic troubleshooting steps don't help, then the dispenser assembly would likely need to be replaced to fix this problem.

If you decide to replace the dispenser, you can order that part from the Sears PartsDirect website. You would probably need to order the dispenser housing and the motor. You may also need the linkage for the motor assembly. You can view the parts on that Sears PartsDirect.com website.

Unplug the washer to disconnect electrical power before accessing internal components.

If you need more help, reply with additional details and we will assist you further.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
