Question and Answers

Q:

I have a Kenmore Elite front loader washer, model # 11045981400 and the Control Locked light is on. The washer won't start. How can I get this working?

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern with your washer. We must have a working washer.

Based on your description; the control panel is in a lock mode. To unlock the controls: Push and HOLD the "Drain and Spin' button for 3 seconds or longer until the "Control Locked" light turns off. Once the "Control Locked" light turns off you should be able to program and start your washer. If you not able to get the "Control Locked" light to turn off, it may have a faulty machine control board or user interface.

I recommend calling Sears at 1-800-4MY-HOME or 1-800-469-4663 to set up a service appointment to diagnose and repair your washer if you're not able to unlock the control.

Q:

What do I need to do to program my Kenmore Elite Washer 11045981400 to end the cycle? I added an item possibly after 8 minutes and now it won't start or end.

A:

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

The first thing I recommend is checking for error codes. This washer has a way to recall error codes. If the control detects a problem it will identify it with an error code. I am including this information in a set of images below. These error codes are important to ensure proper diagnosis of your appliance. Please perform the diagnostic tests detailed here and report back with your findings. Be sure to record any failures and when they occur along with any error codes that are displayed.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Q:

Why does my Kenmore Elite HE4t washer keep filling with water even when it is turned off?

A:

This type of problem is normally caused by a failed inlet water valve. Here are some tests to properly diagnose this problem:

  • Unplug the washer and see if the water continues to fill the tub. If it stops when the washer is unplugged, then you could have a bad control board that is energizing the water inlet valve when the unit is off. This is a rare failure that is probably not causing the washer to keep filling. It should be ruled out as a possible failure.
  • Shut the water supply faucets off that are behind the washer. If the filling stops with these supply valves shut, then you will need to replace the inlet water valve assembly.
  • If the washer keeps filling with the water supply shut off, then you have a siphoning problem through your drain line. Check the drain configuration to make sure that it is properly installed. Make sure that the drain hose is not stuck way down the stand pipe or taped shut at the top.
If you need to replace the water inlet valve assembly, unplug the washer, turn off the water supply and remove the top panel. Screws at the very back of the top panel secure it to the washer. Remove the screws and then pull the top panel back and off of the washer. This should give you access to remove and replace the water inlet valve assembly.

You can order a new water inlet valve assembly from the Sears PartsDirect website www.searspartsdirect.com . The part number is 8181694.
