The type of failure is normally caused by a bad timer (part 8546681). Replacing that component will likely fix your problem. You can order that part from the Sears PartsDirect website.

Unplug the washer before opening the console and replacing the timer. The image below shows how to open the console on this washer. That new timer should have a sticker on the back that shows how to release the knob on the front.
