Q:

Kenmore Elite Oasis Washing Machine

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The noise your hearing is most likely caused by worn out spin bearings which are part of the outer tub assembly. The outer tub assembly will need to removed and replaced. The outer tub with bearings will most likely be covered under the 10 year limited warranty. You will be responsible for the service fee which includes the labor.

The warranty reads as follows:

TEN-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY ON STAINLESS STEEL DRUM AND PLASTIC TUB For ten years from the date of purchase, when this washer is installed, operated and maintained according to all instructions supplied with the product, Sears will replace the stainless steel drum and/or plastic tub due to defective materials or workmanship. After the first year, customer assumes any labor costs associated with replacement of these parts. If this appliance is used for other than private family purposes, this warranty applies for only 90 days from the date of purchase.

THIS WARRANTY COVERS ONLY DEFECTS IN MATERIAL AND WORKMANSHIP. SEARS WILL NOT PAY FOR:

1. Expendable items that can wear out from normal use, including but not limited to filters, belts, light bulbs, and bags. 2. A service technician to instruct the user in correct product installation, operation or maintenance. 3. A service technician to clean or maintain this product. 4. Damage to or failure of this product if it is not installed, operated or maintained according to all instructions supplied with the product. 5. Damage to or failure of this product resulting from accident, abuse, misuse or use for other than its intended purpose. 6. Damage to or failure of this product caused by the use of detergents, cleaners, chemicals or utensils other than those recommended in all instructions supplied with the product. 7. Damage to or failure of parts or systems resulting from unauthorized modifications made to this product.

NOTE: There have been some improvements made in the service procedure for that outer tub bearing since this answer was posted. The outer tub bearing is now available as a separate component. It can be replaced using special tools that the Sears Service technicians now have been issued. The outer tub that is under a limited parts warranty no longer needs to be replaced when that bearing goes bad in many situations. That bearing kit costs around $80. The labor for the technician would cost around $140 (at this time). That labor would have been charged for the replacement of the outer tub even when the part was covered. This repair may wind up costing about $80 more than it would have when that previous answer was written. If the technician examines that outer tub and the entire tub needs to be replaced instead of just the bearing, then the tub would still be covered by the limited parts warranty. You would still need to pay for the labor of diagnosis and replacement (about $140 at this time). The technician is required to examine the tub and determine the parts that are needed and whether they are covered by the warranty. To repair that likely bearing failure, I recommend that you schedule service by a Sears Technician. You can call 1-800-469-4663 or click on the link that I provided below this response to schedule service.

I understand your concern about that failure. I recommend that you have the Sears Technician examine the washer. In most areas, there is a $75 minimum trip charge to have the technician visit your home and diagnose the failure. As noted above, it is likely that the bearing can now be replaced instead of replacing the entire outer tub that houses that bearing. In some situations, that outer tub may need to be replaced. The technician can discuss the repair options with you after examining the washer. Once the washer is repaired, it is unlike that you will have further problems.

F-50

A:

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

The links Dezeray S. provided in the first response will explain what "F50" means. If the basket spins freely then I recommend calling a service technician to diagnose and repair your washer.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.
