Question and Answers

Q:

How do I replace the motor coupler on my Kenmore washer model 11026422500?

A:

The illustrated procedures for accessing the motor coupler in this model of washer are shown in the first image below. Be sure that you unplug the washer before beginning this procedure. The basic process involves these steps:

  1. Unplug the washer.
  2. Hinge the console up into the service position.
  3. Unplug the lid switch.
  4. Release the clips that secure the washer cabinet to the back panel.
  5. Pull the cabinet off of the washer and set it aside.
  6. Remove the metal clips that secure the drain pump and position the drain pump out of the way. You can leave the hoses attached on the drain pump.
  7. Remove the hex head screws from the motor spring clips.
  8. Release the motor from the spring clips and it will drop down to expose the motor coupler.
  9. Replace the both of the plastic clips and the black rubber piece in the middle.
I recently ordered a new motor coupler from the Sears PartsDirect website. The new motor coupler was a revise or improved part. It had a metal sleeves in the middle of the white plastic pieces where the motor and transmission shafts are inserted to provide more strength to the plastic part. If the motor coupler that you received does not have this metal part in the middle of the white plastic piece, then you may want to order this part from the Sears PartsDirect website to get the revised part. This should help prevent the motor coupler from breaking again.

When reassembling the washer, make sure that the drain pump is properly positioned according to the tips in the first image below.

Use the tips at the bottom of the second image to make sure that the washer cabinet if replaced properly.
