Question and Answers

Q:

Why won't my clothes washer clean well any longer?

A:

Here are some tips that may help you with this general cleaning problem:

  • Check the drain hose installation. Make sure that the drain hose is not stuck way down the stand pipe behind the washer. See if it has a kink or clog in the hose. Make sure that the stand pipe is draining properly.
  • Use the proper amount of detergent. Overuse of detergent can cause excessive suds. This can result in residue and poor cleaning.
  • Use the proper water level in the washer. Make sure that it is filling properly.
  • See if the washer is agitating properly.
These general tips may help. If you need more help, resubmit your question with additional details regarding the cleaning problem that you have (residue, stains or lint).

Q:

My kenmore washer model 11024862300 does not go into spin cycle. Without cloths in the tub if moved by hand it atempts to move.

A:

Check to see if the washer agitates. If not, you could have the failure that is described in the link for a previous answer provided by Barbara H. in the above response.

If the washer agitates, your symptoms point to a bad clutch in the washer. I recommend that you examine that part for wear. Here is a Repair Clinic.com video that shows how to access the clutch: Washing Machine Clutch Replacement

If the clutch is worn out or broken, it will need to be replaced. You can order a new clutch (part 285785) from the Sears PartsDirect website.

There are other failures that could be causing your spin problem in the washer. If you need more help, reply with additional details.

This repair is fairly advanced. If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .
