Question and Answers

Q:

Kenmore Elite washer fills and drain water but does not spin in wash cycle and spin cycle

A:

If the motor of the washer is running but will not agitate or spin the problem is most likely the motor coupler. The coupler links the motor to the transmission. I have included an image of a coupler below. To check the motor coupler you need to remove the cabinet of the washer. The second image below will give you the instructions for removing the cabinet.

To remove the broken parts of the coupler use a large screwdriver to pry the coupler off the motor and transmission shaft. Then use a deep well socket and a hammer to tap the new coupler on. The coupler parts should be flush with the motor and transmission shaft. When reinstalling the motor place the black doughnut part onto the transmission side first. Then make reference of the three open spaces. The motor part has to slide into these. Once the motor is aligned, reinstall the motor clips. You can now reassemble the washer and test the operation.

The part number for the coupler is 285753A. Please click the following link to order the coupler .

I hope this is helpful.
