Question and Answers

Q:

broken washer

A:

Thank you for your question.

I am sorry you are having a problem with the washer. Usually if this washer has a problem, it will give an error code. If the washer is not giving an error code, I recommend running the washer through a test. I have posted an image below that show how to enter the test mode. Click on the image and follow the instructions. Once the washer in the test mode, watch the display while it is running. If the washer fails during the test, please let me know what code came up (if any) and what number was in the display at the time it failed. This will give me an idea what is wrong with the washer.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have it repaired at your home by a Sears technician. Here is a link for the website: Sears Home Services .

Q:

How do I reset the control board on this washer?

A:

Hello Will. I realize that we have some problems with some images being too small to read on our website. I apologize for that malfunction.

To reset the control board on that washer, you can unplug the washer for 3 minutes. This will reboot the microprocessor in the electronic control board. Plug the washer back in and see if the control operates properly. If not, then you could have a problem with the control panel or the electronic control board. I posted a diagnostic test for the control panel in the image below (it should appear in full size). I recommend that you conduct that test if you reset the control board and still have the same problem. If you find a problem with one or more of the buttons, then the control panel will probably need to be replaced. If the control panel is okay, then you will likely need to replace the main electronic control board.

Q:

Washer won't drain

A:

Thank you for submitting a question to Manage My Life.

The "FL"flashes if an over fill condition occurs. This condition occurs when excessive water in the tub causes the flood switch to trip. The control must realize that the trip was due to an over fill instead of a suds lock condition in order for FL to be displayed. With an over fill condition; the beeper repeats a warning beep every 10 seconds with no timeout. The pump is cycled in drain mode for a half minute on, half minute off until the flood switch resets or power is discontinued to the unit.

If the washer is empty, then you likely have a problem with the water level pressure switch. If the washer is full of water and will not drain, you likely have a problem with the drain pump or the washer drain line.

If the washer is full of water, make sure that the washer drain is clear and working properly. Check the drain hose for kinks or clogs. If you find no problems with these issues, I recommend that you manually drain the washer using a wet/dry shop vacuum. Check the drain pump and connecting hoses for problems. You may need to replace the drain pump of water will drain out of the washer properly but the pump will not work properly. A clog in the check ball assembly at the bottom of the tub can also prevent the washer from draining properly. Here is a link for a previous answer that provides additional troubleshooting for this type of problem: Why am I getting an FL error code on a Kenmore Calypso washing Machine? .

If the washer is empty, then the flood water level pressure switch in the console will likely need to be replaced. Here is a link for a previous answer that describes this type of repair: Why does my Kenmore say "FL" on the screen? .

These tips will likely help you resolve this problem. I have no way of estimating repair costs or how long your washer will last. If you need more assistance, reply with additional details.
